Planning your visits
How long to stay for each treatment, and how to fit sightseeing around appointments.
Plan my tripKey points
- Fix the treatment dates with the clinic first, then book flights and hotels.
- Implants usually need two trips several months apart. Veneers and crowns usually fit into one trip.
- Leave a spare day or two at the end for adjustments before you fly.
Dental work runs on the clinic's schedule, not the airline's. Agree the appointment plan first and build the rest of the trip around it.
Typical time needed
| Treatment | Typical stay | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Whitening | 1 to 2 days | Often combined with a clean and check-up |
| Crowns | 3 to 7 days | Longer if a root canal is needed first |
| Porcelain veneers | 7 to 10 days | Includes a check after fitting |
| Implants | Two trips | Placement, then the crown 3 to 6 months later |
| Braces or aligners | 12 to 24 months | Needs a monitoring plan for when you're home |
These are typical ranges. Your clinic's plan for your case is what counts.
Leave a buffer
Book your flight home a day or two after the last appointment. Bites sometimes need small adjustments once the swelling goes down, and that's much easier while you're still in town.
Insurance
Many travel insurance policies exclude planned medical treatment. Check your policy, and ask the clinic what its warranty covers if you need follow-up care after you leave.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sightsee during treatment?
Yes, between appointments. Avoid long bus rides, alcohol and diving straight after surgery, and ask the clinic which days are free.
What should I bring?
Recent X-rays, a list of medicines you take, any records from your dentist at home, and travel insurance details.
This article is general information, not medical advice. A dentist who has examined you is the right person to recommend treatment.
