Clinics

Both cities are main destinations for dental tourism in Vietnam, alongside Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. In either one you can find clinics that treat international patients for crowns, veneers, implants and whitening. Check each clinic the same way: its licence, who will treat you, how instruments are sterilised, and what the warranty covers. See choosing a clinic, then compare verified clinics in Da Nang and Nha Trang.

Getting there

Da Nang International Airport is close to the centre, usually a 10 to 20 minute taxi ride. Vietnam's tourism site says daily flights link it to the country's major hubs. That short transfer is handy if your first appointment is the day after you land.

Nha Trang's Cam Ranh International Airport is about 30 km south of the city, according to the tourism site, and the drive usually takes 40 to 50 minutes. Nha Trang also has a train station in the centre, on the main line between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. In both cities, ride-hailing apps make it easy to reach appointments. Weather

Both cities are warm all year, and both have their rainy season late in the year.

Da Nang. Vietnam's tourism site lists March to May and September to October as the best months, with warm, sunny days for the beach and the Hải Vân Pass. Heavy rain and storms are most likely in autumn, and the UK government says seasonal flooding occurs in central Vietnam in October and November.

Nha Trang. The tourism site says the rainy season runs from September to December and the dry, sunny season from January to August, which is the best time for the beach, diving and island trips. Its weather guide notes that Nha Trang gets more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

If you travel to either city between September and December, leave a spare day or two before your flight home in case storms delay it. Our guide to the best time to visit Vietnam has a month-by-month table.

The beach and recovery

Both cities are good places for a quiet recovery week by the sea. The catch is that swimming, snorkelling and boat trips should wait until your dentist says the wound has healed, especially after an extraction or implant surgery. Plan beach days for the end of your stay, after your final check.

In Da Nang, My Khe Beach sweeps south from the forested Sơn Trà Peninsula. Vietnam's tourism site notes that local residents use it for exercise and work, so it feels like a city beach. A gentle walk along the promenade suits the days after treatment.

In Nha Trang, the city beach is busy with sunbathers during the day, and quieter beaches lie a short ride south. The tourism site describes Nha Trang as lively by day with a busy nightlife. If you want calm evenings while you recover, choose a hotel away from the busiest streets.

Day trips

From Da Nang

  • Hoi An's old town, about 45 minutes by car, makes an easy half day.
  • The Marble Mountains, five limestone and marble hills with caves, pagodas and viewpoints. The tourism site says you can take the stairs or a lift.
  • The Sơn Trà Peninsula, with a winding coastal road, coves, temples and the Lady Buddha statue.
  • The Hải Vân Pass, on the road north towards Huế.

From Nha Trang

  • Island trips around Nha Trang Bay, including Monkey Island.
  • Mud baths at hillside spas just north of the city, with a warm mud pool and a soak in hot mineral water.
  • The Po Nagar Cham towers, centuries-old towers close to town.

Island trips and mud baths are better after surgery has healed. Long boat rides and hot mineral pools aren't a good idea while a wound is fresh.

Who each city suits

Choose Da Nang if you:

  • want a short airport transfer
  • would like to see Hoi An or Huế during the trip
  • prefer a calmer city to recover in
  • are travelling in spring or early autumn

Choose Nha Trang if you:

  • want the longest dry season, from January to August
  • plan island trips or diving once you've healed
  • like a lively resort town
  • are combining short treatment with a beach holiday

Still deciding? Send the same X-rays to clinics in both cities and compare their written plans, then let the clinic decide. The trip planner shows a sample day-by-day trip for your treatment in either city, and planning your visits explains how long each treatment takes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Da Nang or Nha Trang better for dental treatment?

Both are main dental tourism cities with many clinics that treat international patients. Da Nang has the closer airport and is near Hoi An and Huế. Nha Trang has a long dry season and island trips. Choose the clinic first, then the city.

Which has better weather?

Vietnam's tourism site lists March to May and September to October as the best time for Da Nang, and says Nha Trang's dry, sunny season runs from January to August. Both get heavy rain later in the year, and the UK government warns of seasonal flooding in central Vietnam in October and November.

How far is the airport from the city?

Da Nang International Airport is close to the centre, usually a 10 to 20 minute taxi ride. Cam Ranh International Airport is about 30 km south of Nha Trang, and the drive usually takes 40 to 50 minutes.

Can I swim after dental treatment?

Ask your dentist. After an extraction or implant surgery, most advise waiting until the wound has closed. After whitening or a check-up, swimming is usually fine.

Can I go diving or snorkelling after dental work?

Not straight after surgery. A snorkel mouthpiece presses on the gums and pressure changes can affect healing, so wait until your dentist says it's fine.

Can I visit Hoi An from Da Nang during treatment?

Yes. Hoi An's old town is about 45 minutes from Da Nang by car, so it makes an easy half-day outing on a day without treatment. Avoid long days out straight after surgery.

Can I combine both cities on one trip?

Yes, there are domestic flights and a railway along the coast. Do the travelling before treatment starts or after your final check, not in the days after surgery.
